The clocks have gone back, and November has arrived. We may be going into a second lockdown but that doesn’t mean you can’t still make plenty of memories to look back on in the years to come.

Here are a few fun things you can try this month all from the comfort of your own home.

Fireworks Evening
It’s undoubtedly going to be a different kind of Bonfire Night on November 5th due to lockdown restrictions. Why not grab some sparklers and toast some marshmallows over a bonfire. Remember to respect any neighbours with pets if you decide to put on a few fireworks, being kind should apply to animals just as much as us.

To ensure you have a safe night, it’s worthwhile checking out the advice from The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA). See the link at the end of this blog.

Movember
The annual festival of the moustache takes place this month. Movember has grown rapidly (pun intended) since it started in Australia in 2004. It stems its roots in Melbourne where two friends convinced 30 mates to go with the mo. It’s a fun way to add some fur to your face and raise funds for men’s health charities and there’s no better timing as we stay at home.

Christmas Shopping Lists
Let’s face it 2020 has been a year to forget so any excuse to take our minds off things must be welcomed. What better way to do that than to start making your Christmas lists?
If anything, this year has certainly taught us that we don’t need to be so consumed by all the latest ‘must haves’. Think of ways you could help your community by adding a few extra bits here and there to give to those less fortunate than yourselves.

It has also never been so important to support all your local shops and independents, so why not set yourself a challenge and see what's on your list that you could buy from local independent stores in St Neots and the surrounding areas #shoplocal

Christmas Cake & Crafts
Why not make a start on a Christmas Cake. It is best to get baking around two or three months before Christmas. This gives you plenty of time to let it mature and 'feed' your Christmas Cake regularly as the big day approaches. Giving it a good amount of time to firm up will also improve its flavour and appearance when the time comes to slice your cake - if you eat your Christmas Cake too soon after baking it, you'll find that it crumbles. You could even make them as gifts for loved ones this year - a nice personal touch.

Get your craft on and start making your own Christmas cards or decorations, ready for when December arrives.

Family Movie Nights
Now the darker evenings start at 4.30 pm and the weather’s getting chillier it’s the perfect excuse to get cosy on the sofa and watch a movie with your family.
These ideas can help you make it even more fun:

  • Agree on a theme for the night. It could be sci-fi, western, horror or even romance. We are going to start the Harry Potter boxset again as it’s a nice, magical theme for the run up to Christmas.
  • Make sure you have plenty of cinema-style snacks handy like popcorn, sweets etc.
  • Create your own tickets – Children will love making their own cinema tickets that need to be shown to ensure a seat in time for the big movie.

There’s plenty to do across St Neots at home in November if we put our minds to it.

Plus, people are still looking to move to make a fresh start in 2021. If that’s at the forefront of your mind, then get in touch, we can discuss how we can make that a reality.

Whatever you do have fun, but most importantly of all stay safe! Talking of safety here is the ROSPA link: https://www.rospa.com/Home-Safety/Advice/Fireworks-Safety
