It's Mother's Day this coming Sunday in the UK a chance to say thank you, remember and think of loved ones.

Across the UK there are over 4.6 million mums with dependent children and in addition it is estimated 6.1 million (39%) of young adults aged 16–34 still live with their parents.

Females tend to fly the nest quicker, over half having left home by the age of 23, over 80% by age 26.

For young men, the tipping point is later. Over one third live at home until aged 26, and even by aged 34 it is estimated 8% of young men (the equivalent to 1 in 12) have yet to fly the nest.

How old were you when you bought your first property?

Having three boys, we clearly have many many years of them eating us out of house and home. I am massively outnumbered in the Butler household.

Many young people spent more time with their parents than expected as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, studying, training and working from home.

Some, may have benefited from the lockdowns in saving for a deposit and with the introduction of the Mortgage Guarantee scheme in last weeks Spring budget announcement, that means many wanting to get on the property ladder will be able to access 95% mortgages with just a 5% deposit.
